High School Competitive Rowing

General Description: 

The High School Competitive Program is for experienced athletes, who are committed to training up to six mornings per week, and competing in spring, summer and fall regattas. The program focuses on athlete development and excellence and fun in competition. Athletes will be divided into groups based on fitness and skill, with the intent of creating training groups comprised of athletes of similar skill levels.

Is this program right for you?

This program is for athletes aged 14-18 who attends high school in the Kingston and surrounding area.

Previous rowing experience is required, which includes our Madsculls Summer Camp or Learn to Row programs. New athletes must complete the High School Learn to Row program before joining the High School Competitive program.

Practice Schedule:

  • Mondays - Fridays, 5:30 AM - 7:30 AM (Summer)

  • Saturdays, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
     

Regatta Schedule:

  • South Niagara Invitational - Welland, May 16-17, 2026

  • CSSRA (Canadian Secondary School Rowing Assocation) - St. Catharines, June 5-7, 2026

  • Row Ontario Championships - St. Catharines, July 18-19, 2026 

  • Head of the Rideau - Ottawa, September 27, 2026

  • Head of the Trent - Peterborough, October 4, 2026

*Note, the registration fee does not include regatta travel and entry costs. Travel and entry fees are the responsibility of competing athletes. 

*Financial assistance is possible through the KidSport grant (youth aged 4-18). Program registration must be a minimum of 8 weeks in length; camps are not eligible. Please check the KidSport website for more information: https://kidsportcanada.ca/ontario/kingston/
