Recreation Program Manager
The Recreation Programs Manager is responsible for the implementation, delivery and administration of two core initiatives at the Kingston Rowing Club: the summer youth rowing program for participants aged 10–14 years, and the summer evening recreational rowing program for youth and adults. Both programs are designed as introductory experiences for community members with little or no prior rowing experience, including those who are financially challenged, able-bodied, or physically challenged. The emphasis is on providing a fun and safe environment that introduces the sport of rowing.
The Kingston Rowing Club continues to work on expanding its program offerings to increase accessibility to rowing for the diverse populations within the Kingston community. A key development is the introduction of an adaptive rowing program designed for persons with disabilities. Recent investments in specialized equipment enables individuals with physical disabilities to participate in rowing, thus addressing and removing traditional barriers to entry.
Additionally, the club has acquired the more stable coastal rowing equipment, which facilitates a safer and more accessible introduction to the sport. This equipment shortens the learning curve and allows participants to row safely, even in the varied conditions present along the coast of Lake Ontario.
As a not-for-profit organization, the Kingston Rowing Club encourages and provides recreational opportunities while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. In doing so, it aligns with and supports the local priorities of the Kingston community.
