First Annual KRC Pride Row

On Saturday, June 25th we hosted our first annual Pride Row! In celebration of Pride month, our Junior and Senior club members and coaches wore rainbow colours during our 1500m time trial. Good showing of KRC inclusiveness and we look forward to next year’s event.

Easter Seals Regatta: Register now!

The KRC is proud to be a supporter and participant in the 2022 Easter Seals Regatta on Sunday, July 10th at the Kingston Yacht Club. This year marks 100 years of Easter Seals Ontario providing kids with physical disabilities the tools they need to reach their full potential and make their own positive impact on the world (last year’s event raised over $5000!). The KRC is taking this opportunity to both fundraise for a cause and promote rowing to a wider audience. This is also a great opportunity for those of us used to calm mornings to experience the excitement of coastal rowing and try the beach sprints race format.

KRC athletes and their families can row, or attend and enjoy family-friendly on-land activities (BBQ, local vendors, games, etc)
Athletes will be racing on relay teams, please indicate your interest HERE
Boats launch at 11:30 AM, docking latest by 1:30 PM. The event runs from 10-3 PM
The proposed format is roughly a 500m slalom course along the shoreline from the Kingston Yacht Club towards the Gord Downie Pier
The relay teams will race for fun awards!

To help Easter Seals kids even more, crews are encouraged to raise additional sponsorship money for their boat. Donors can be directed to https://www.easterseals.org/easter-seals-kingston-regatta/ and click ‘Donate Today’. They may choose the KRC boat they wish to donate to under ‘Recipient’.

July KRC BBQ: Friday, July 8th at 6:00PM

Join us for a BBQ at KRC this Friday! We will have hamburgers and hot dogs, members are welcome to bring dish of their choice! We look forward to seeing you there.

Saturday, July 9: Donuts and boathouse clean-up!

10 AM - 12 PM
Our second one of the summer! All members are reminded the club depends on all the members to volunteer each year to help keep the club functioning so well - and to keep the membership costs down. It’s good fun, no hard work required, and plenty of donuts.

Junior Competitive Program Updates

It is rewarding to watch the progress of our local junior rowers and to see some step up to train with seniors under coaches Katie, Erin, and Kathleen.
Currently, we have seven rowers in their first year of rowing ranging from grade 8 to grade 11. Their progress has been amazing thanks to the coaching of Brad Brennan and Sean Whitehall. We look forward to their first racing experience on July 16.

Senior Competitive Program Updates

The competitive group has been training hard every morning on the Cataraqui. The group is a mixture of juniors and seniors who are working together towards their future goals. They’re primarily training in small boats and have already made large strides technically and physiologically. The team is eagerly preparing for the first Henley in three years and can’t wait for summer racing to begin.

New sessions added

We have added a weekend-only Adult Learn to Row (Saturday, July 9 and 16) and another session of Mad Sculls youth rowing camp from August 15-19.

Boathouse Etiquette Reminders

All emergency exits must be kept clear at all times and there must be a clear path through each boat bay free of tripping hazards and obstruction from boats. If storage is an issue, please contact your coach.

All crews:

Goose line needs to be put up after the row
Boats, oars, and oar handles must be washed prior to storage in boathouse.
Boat cleaning corner is for boat washing materials only

Save the date! 45th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, November 26th at 4:00PM

Join us on to celebrate 45 years of rowing at the Kingston Rowing Club and Queen’s University! The event will be held Ban Righ Hall at Queen’s University. We look forward to you joining us for a full-course dinner, boat christening, alumni speakers, and a silent auction. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sunday, July 10: Easter Seals Regatta, Kingston, ON. Registration open to all club members including Juniors, Seniors, and Adult Rec.

July 16-17: Eastern Rowing Association Regatta (ERAs), Montreal, QC. Junior and Senior athletes.

July 23-24: Row Ontario Championships, Welland, ON. Junior and Senior athletes.

August 2-7: Royal Canadian Henley, St. Catherines, ON. Junior and Senior athletes.

Mid-late August (TBD): KRC Summer Send-Off Regatta, Kingston, ON. Registration open to all club members. We will be gauging interest from each training group in the upcoming weeks!

Non-Competitive Summer Programs

MadSculls Youth Camps (10-14)

We are offering weekly MadSculls camps during July for youth ages 10 - 14. The camps will run from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM Monday through Friday. $295 per session + RCA member fee.

Session 3: July 18-22

Session 4: July 25-29

Junior Learn-to-Row (14-18)

Session 5: August 15-31st on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00PM.

Adult Learn-to-Row

No prior experience? We’ll teach you! Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM.

Session 4: July 11-27

Session 5: August 15-31

Adult Recreational Rowing

Coached sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings from 6-7:30 PM. This group uses the iCrew app so members can reserve shells before arrival. Open to anyone who has completed Learn-to-Row or has prior rowing experience.
