KRC athletes had an exceptional month and whirlwind of performances at the U23 World Championships, CanAmEx International regatta, RowOntario Championships, ERAs, and Royal Canadian Henley!

Reminder that we are holding our annual year end BBQ on Saturday, August 20th at 12pm, potluck sign-up here. Prior to the BBQ, we will be holding some informal races between 10AM-12PM. Contact a KRC coach if you are interested.

Last week we had new floors installed in our erg bay thanks to a very generous donation! We are excited to use it in the years to come.

U23 World Championships and CanAmMex

We were thrilled that we had several KRC athletes and alumni selected to the U23 NextGen National Team. Athletes competed at the U23 World Championships in Varese, Italy. Athletes Claire Ellison and Shae de Paiva raced in the BW8+, finishing 7th overall. Andrew Hubbard placed 13th overall in the BM2x and 1st in the C final. Ceilidh MacDonald and Kyle Nummi were selected as spares for the U23 team; both will be competing at the Canada Summer Games from August 17-21 in St. Catharines. Junior athlete Cole Carter placed 3rd in the men’s single and 2nd in the men’s quad at the CanAmEx regatta in London, Ontario.

Royal Canadian Henley

After a three-year hiatus, we were back at Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines. We had an outstanding performance by Alex Abicht and Lucas Celia who won GOLD in the lightweight 2x event! Athlete Alex Duggan placed 4th in the U19 women’s 1x. Sean Whitehall won bronze in the 64kg men’s 1x event, and Isi Ferguson and Emily Pain had a strong showing coming 4th in the U23 lightweight pair.

Junior and Adult Recreational Rowing

Last month we introduced our Junior recreation rowing program and are very pleased that it has been so popular. The Adult crew has now transitioned to using iCrew so members can reserve boats prior to arrival. Programs are open to anyone who has completed Learn-to-Row or has prior rowing experience.

Juniors: Tuesdays/Thursdays 6:00-7:30pm, Saturdays 10:15-11:45AM
Adults: Tuesdays/Thursdays 6:00-7:30pm, Saturdays 10:30AM-12:00PM

Our last Mad Sculls youth rowing camp will be August 15-19 from 8:30AM-12:00PM. The last Learn to Row sessions of the season are coming up from August 15-31 and September 12-28. Register here
